The acclaimed filmmaker's mythic action epic, The Odyssey, stands as a movie we've been eagerly awaiting ever since it was revealed. It easily ranks as one of the most awaited films of 2026. In a festive surprise, a preview has now been released, though it's hampered by YouTube's poor compression—maybe illustrating why Nolan initially kept the preview exclusive to cinemas.
A First Glimpse at the Legendary Cast
The debut footage reveals Matt Damon in the role of the king of Ithaca. We also see Tom Holland playing the son and Anne Hathaway depicting the loyal wife. In a poignant moment, the character pleads with her husband to vow his safe homecoming, to which he respond by asking what occurs should he fail. The trailer also offers a quick, obscured look at Polyphemus the Cyclops, whose flock Odysseus and his crew steal during their arduous journey.
Adapted from a foundational pillar in classic storytelling, The Odyssey follows the epic journey undertaken by the famed ruler. After his triumph at Troy, which is depicted within the companion epic, Odysseus endures a long and perilous road home.
Mythical Encounters with an All-Star Cast
On his travels, the hero encounters countless challenges and mythical beings. These include the witch-goddess Circe, known for turning humans into pigs, as well as the treacherous Sirens. Despite these trials, his sworn oath is to do whatever it takes to get back to Penelope and Telemachus on his home island.
The adaptation's cast is remarkably star-studded. Joining Damon, Holland, and Hathaway is Charlize Theron as the cunning Circe, together with Zendaya, Lupita Nyong'o, Robert Pattinson, Elliot Page, and Jon Bernthal.
A Tale of Many Adaptations
The classic poem has inspired numerous adaptations over the years. These range from contemporary versions to a 1999 ballet. It has even been adapted into a musical titled Epic: The Musical, presented as a multi-part album series.
